SERI Delima constituency has received another life-saving addition with the installation of an automated external defibrillator (AED) at the Island Park Rukun Tetangga, thanks to a contribution from Lions Club International District 308B2.

The initiative forms part of the Lions Year 2024-2025 Legacy Project, which aims to install 12 AED units across the country this year.

Organising chairman of the project, William Hoe, who is also a representative of Lions Club International District 308B2, said the club is committed to ensuring communities have access to vital equipment in emergencies.

“We have donated one unit of AED to Seri Delima, which has already been installed at Island Park Rukun Tetangga.

“This project is part of a larger effort where Lions Club has vowed to install 12 units of AED devices nationwide by the end of the year.

“A total of RM60,000 was approved for this initiative, made possible through the support of the Lions Club International Foundation, under the District and Club Community Impact Grant,” Hoe said in a brief AED device handover ceremony at the Island Park Rukun Tetangga this morning.

Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan expressed her gratitude to the Lions Club, while stressing the importance of making AEDs widely available across the constituency.

“I am confident this will not be the last AED contribution from Lions Club International District 308B2.

“In Seri Delima, I always tell my residents that we have three abundances.

“The first one is that we are a multiracial community; second, we have many parks and gardens, about 16 of them in Seri Delima alone; and third, we have a very active community with many exercise groups,” Tan said.

She added that her wish is for every park and garden to be equipped with AED devices to safeguard the health and well-being of residents.

“This is now the eighth AED in Seri Delima, and we hope to install more in the future. Active ageing is something I strongly encourage in this community.

“I still recall an incident where an individual suffered cardiac arrest and although CPR was carried out, the lack of an AED cost him his life,” Tan shared.

Reflecting on the importance of AEDs, as of December last year, Tan said that 16 lives have been saved in Seri Delima through the availability of AED devices.

The latest installation further underscores the importance of partnerships between civic organisations and elected representatives in fostering healthier and safer communities.
