MBPP requires business operators to display vaccination status

BUSINESS operators for the 19 economic sectors that have been allowed to operate since Aug 16 as well as food outlets that have been allowed dine-ins are told to display their vaccination status at the entrances of their respective outlets from today onwards.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said the council has prepared a standardised form to be used by the traders to ensure a smooth operation at the business premises.

“They can download these forms from our website and fill in the particulars of the vaccination status of the employees at the outlet.

“The owners are required to display the form and if they failed to do so, then the shops would be ordered to close.

“Whenever there is an update on the vaccination status, they have to print a new form and fill up the simple statistics and put it up again.

“This rule also applies to food outlets that are open to dine-ins.

“So, it is for the customers to decide whether they want to visit the shops or not,’’ said Yew during his visit to the Gurney Paragon Mall today.

Yew also added that the MBPP would team up with the police to conduct inspection at all the operating outlets on the island.

Meanwhile, Gurney Paragon senior executive of marketing communications Kester Hok said 70% percent of shops in the mall have reopened today.

“Some business operators have already opened their shops yesterday and I believe that businesses will slowly pick up here.

“Today, the mayor and his team visited us and distributed the  ‘yellow form’ for the shop owners to fill up the information about the their vaccination status.

“The form also contains the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the customers,” said Hok.

On a separate matter, Yew said that a total of 2,000 small traders including their workers in the northeast and southeast district will be receiving their Covid-19 vaccination through Community Vaccine Mobilisation (Movak) programme.

“These smalls traders will be getting their Covid-19 jabs in phases starting from Aug 30.

“Those who have not registered via MySejahtera or had registered and have yet to receive their appointment can contact the council,” said Yew.
