THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has waived the night market organiser license fee until December this year.

MBPP Financial Management Committee alternate chairman Wong Yuee Harng said the committee, in a meeting on Nov 16, had approved the proposal to extend the license fee waiver for the period of August to December this year.

“We have given the license fee waiver from April to July and now we are extending it to December.

“A total of 42 night market organisers on Penang island will benefit from this license fee waiver.

“The latest exemption (August to December) totalled RM41,600,” he said during the council meeting today.

On a separate matter, Lam Wah Ee Hospital in Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe Lim has been exempted from paying the assessment tax from Jan 1 this year to Dec 31, 2022.

Wong said the proposal was recently reviewed by the council and was approved.

“The assessment tax exemption has been continuously approved all these years,” he said.

Meanwhile, the MBPP will no longer be bearing the service charge imposed by Pos Malaysia for the MBPP bill payments made via Pos Malaysia.

Wong said the service charge would be borne by the bill payors beginning Jan 1 next year.

“However, the payors can still enjoy free service charge if they pay their council bills via Jompay, MBPP kiosks or the MBPP counters,” he said.
