Media folk let down their hair

FOR the second year in a row, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow held another media night to appreciate the efforts by Penang media practitioners at G Hotel today.

Many of the newsmen were busy snapping Chow’s photos when he arrived at about 8.40pm before joining some dancers to go up on stage and sang a Malay number ‘Seloka Hari Raya’, together with a duet.

In staying close to the ‘Hats On Hats Off theme’, Chow wore a grey shirt and a cap.

The appreciation media night was attended by the journalists, photographers and videographers from various media organisations.

In his speech, Chow said he appreciated the dedication and hard work from pressmen when covering events.

He said members of media have played a pivotal role in their reporting.

“I hope the press members are satisfied with answers given to them during the press conferences. This is because I have tried my best to update the media,” he said in his speech.

The guests were also treated to a sumptuous buffet at the grand ballroom.

Many members of media also walked away with lucky draw prizes which included two hotel stays, a television set, hotel buffet vouchers, luggages, a foldable bicycle and various electrical and electronic items.

It was also a memorable night as five couples were paired up on stage to perform different roles, ending up with an energetic Mandev Singh and a sporting ‘Kak Nor’ (Norafizan Abd Rahim) emerging as winners to be crowned ‘King and Queen’ of the night.

It was definitely a double joy for Norafizan when she also bagged the grand prize for the lucky draw – a hotel stay at the E&O Residences in Kuala Lumpur worth over RM1,300!

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, executive councillors Phee Boon Poh, Yeoh Soon Hin, Soon Lip Chee, Chong Eng and Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who is also the political-secretary to Chow.
