Mid-Autumn Fest back in full swing next month

THE annual traditional Mid-Autumn Festival is considered to be one of the largest occasions for the Chinese community in the Lunar Calendar.

After a toned-down celebration for the past three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival is expected to be ushered in widely this year on Sept 10.

Traditional lanterns are being sold at several shops in town.

As usual, when the festival gets nearer each year, many parents, with their kids in tow, would flock to the shops that are selling traditional lanterns.

It has been a norm for the Chinese community to celebrate the traditional event meaningfully, including the must-have mooncakes.

The Mid-Autumn Festival to take place in the Air Itam Community Centre.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng told Buletin Mutiara that his service centre would be organising the Mid-Autumn Festival in the Air Itam Community Centre on Sept 3.

“The event will start at 7.30pm. There will be a kids’ workshop, performances, lantern riddles, interesting games and free mooncakes to be given away.

“On top of that, a lantern-making contest will be organised for the kids.

“This event can unleash someone’s creativity by turning the discarded items into unique lanterns,” he said.
