FINANCIAL aid continues to pour in for the damaged Bats’ Cave Temple of Tua Peh Kong in Jalan Pokok Ceri, Air Itam this morning.

Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, who visited the temple today, provided RM50,000 aid under his constituency allocation.

The temple, which was destroyed by a fire on March 10, had received RM30,000 from state and RM10,000 from Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai’s parliamentary allocation.

“This over 200-year-old temple, which is famed for the thousands of bats, was destroyed more than 90% by the fire that happened a few days ago.

“The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department.

“Fortunately, there was no casualty in the incident,” Lim told reporters after his visit.

Lim said aside from the non-Muslim places of worship (RIBI) allocation, he would also seek a special allocation from the state to assist the temple.

The temple committee chairman Wong Loy Fook was thankful for Lim’s contribution.

Also present were Wong, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, and a few Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors.

Commenting on the concluded Johor polls after being asked by a reporter, Lim said he respected the Johor voters’ mandate after Barisan Nasional (BN) secured the majority to form the state government.

“We have done our part in the polls, and our 10 DAP elected representatives will do their best to serve the Johoreans,” he said.

Lim, however, said the voters’ turnout was not encouraging, and it needs to be looked into.

“We know that the Covid-19 situation has hindered many people from casting their votes, but we still need to look into the matter,” he added.

Lim also expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers and people who had worked hard during the campaigning period.
