THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has prepared a temporary jetty for kayaking activities in Sungai Perai near Taman Kimsar.

MBSP councillor David Marshel said the construction works on the jetty has already been completed last week and is now ready to be used by kayakers.

“The RM5,000 temporary jetty is a platform to promote kayaking as a recreational activity for lovers of the outdoors and also to promote this area.

“However, they need to bring their own kayak and other equipment. Only those who have a basic knowledge of kayaking activity can use the jetty for that purpose.

“The jetty is a basic infrastructure for them to easily land their kayaks and start the water sport activity through kayaking.

“Hopefully, when there is a good response from the public, the city council will consider to upgrade the jetty into a better one that can accommodate not just kayaks but also a boat.

“The boat also can be used to carry passengers to enjoy the amazing view along the five kilometres Sungai Perai,” Marshel told Buletin Mutiara during an interview session at Taman Kimsar in Prai today.

According to Marshel, Sungai Perai near Taman Kimsar is the first place on the mainland that provides such facility for kayakers.

“Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage them to come here and do the kayak activity here.

“When the Peacock Echo Park that is located at the same place as the jetty is open soon, we believe this will attract an influx of visitors.

“We also plan to organise many community programmes here. This, in turn, will change Perai into a popular tourist location on the mainland.

“We also plan to collaborate with any kayaking association in the state to organise a kayak workshop to teach and encourage the public, especially the younger generation, to take up this water sport,” he said.

On another matter, Marshel said MBSP is also interested in building a 500-metre jogging track that connects Taman Kimsar and Taman Inderawasih.

“We have applied to the Housing and Local Government Ministry for RM1.5 million allocation for this project.

“Once approved, we will start the project as soon as possible,” he said.
