THE Compass Light Association (CLASS) has recently organised a workshop, titled ‘Youth Stand Against Drug & Substance Abuse,’ to educate youths on the harmful effects of drugs.

According to its chairman Sadhisan Thirumohan, the programme was held in conjunction with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is observed yearly on June 26.

“The workshop is aimed at providing youths with the knowledge on the dangers of drug abuse and how to resist the temptations for drugs.

“We hope the knowledge shared will benefit the participants and help them to stay away from drugs or illicit substance abuse,” Sadhisan said during the workshop held at Menara JKP in George Town recently.

Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Kim, who officiated the event, said the state government has always supported the initiatives taken for the youth’s future and well-being.

“Earlier this year, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow also set a five-year focus under the Penang Lawan Ancaman Dadah (PLAD) strategy through the Penang National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA).

“The strategy will help towards realising the Controlled Drugs Goals 2025,” she added.

Lim also freed a pair of doves as a symbolic gesture to signify the country’s deliverance from drug abuse.
