NGO instals mobile disinfectant chamber in Balik Pulau market

A MOBILE disinfectant chamber (MDC) has been installed at the Balik Pulau market area as a measure to fight the Covid-19 outbreak.

It is a pilot project initiated by the Rural Industry Entrepreneur Organisation (RIEO) with the aim of reducing the risk of infection among the public.

RIEO secretary general John Ooh Sin Hwa said the MDC would help provide full body sanitisation.

“The chamber operates automatically through sensors and the market-goers here can use this chamber to keep themselves clean (before and after entering the market).

“Those who have to spend long hours outdoors such as the food delivery personnel and other frontliners can also benefit from it.

“The MDC, which we believe is the first of its kind in Penang and even Malaysia, is our response towards the Prime Minister’s call on urging NGOs to help the government in battling the outbreak,” Ooh told the media today after the chamber was installed.

According to Ooh, the total cost of the project was RM4,000. It took them three days to assemble the chamber.

“The greatest challenge we faced in this project is acquiring the raw material due to the movement control order (MCO).

“We hope that we will be able to instal MDC in other locations, thus we welcome any contributions from the public to make it happen.

“Contributions can be directed to the NGO’s account Pertubuhan Usahawan Industri Desa Pulau Pinang (Hong Leong Bank: 244-0000-1564),” he added.

“Through this effort we would like to affirm here that we are with the state government in combating the outbreak,” he added.
