NGOs urged to submit their nominees for councillor’s posts

NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisations (NGO’s) can now nominate their members for the position of councillors to both the city councils in Penang until Nov 15.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the service period for the present councillors under the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) would be due on Dec 31 this year.

Thus, he said there is a need to appoint councillors for the new term (January 1 2022 to December 31, 2022) by the end of this year.

“The quota allocated for NGOs is seven councillors – four in MBPP and three in MBSP.

“I hope all NGOs in Penang will take note of the opening for councillor’s posts and submit their application to the state government to ensure that their community in the respective local council’s area is represented.

“The last day for the NGOs to submit their nomination is Nov 15,’’ said Jagdeep during a press conference held at the City Hall today.

The application forms, which can be downloaded from the MBPP and MBSP websites from yesterday, are to be submitted to the office of local government division.
