Penang now has 36,000 of parking bays equipped with smart sensors

THE installation of smart sensors for designated parking bays under the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) initiative for both the local councils has been fully completed.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh said a total of 36,000 parking bays have been installed with smart sensors – 12,000 under the care of Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and 24,000 under the care of Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

“The completion of the installation of smart sensors has provided a more efficient parking system for motorists in Penang.

“I would like to thank the PSP system operator HeiTech Padu Berhad for successfully completing the installation work,” Jagdeep said during a press conference today held near the City Hall today.

Jagdeep said the PSP project also won the gold medal under the ‘Smart Mobility category for the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) Award.

He said the PSP project was also conferred the gold medal at the Regional Team Excellence Innovation Showcase (RISTEx) award presentation ceremony in September. The event was organised by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation.

“I would like to congratulate the state secretariat office for having won the gold medal at the RISTEx.

“The programme saw the participation of teams from the local government division, MBPP and MBSP which are leading the PSP project.

“They will be also participating in the upcoming programme called the Annual Productivity and Innovation Showcase (ArISe) 2021 in November,’’ Jagdeep said.

The team had earlier won a gold medal in Mini Team Excellence Innovation Showcase (MTEx) held in July which qualified them to participate in RISTEx.

Other than these awards, Jagdeep said the PSP project has also emerged as the champion at the ‘Inovasi Blast Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang 2019’ competition as well as bagged the award at the ‘Malaysia Technology Excellent (MTEA) Award 2020’ for the Smart IOT –Transportation category.

“It had also won the gold medal under the ‘Smart Mobility category for the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) Award.

“The PSP project has indeed drawn the attention of other states in Malaysia as well as attained recognition internationally.

“As of Oct 15, the PSP system has received an overwhelming response with a total number of 643,996 people downloading its app and 135,130 of active users,’’ he said.

Jagdeep also shared that the state government has thus far completed a total of 36 smart initiatives, besides having 26 ongoing smart initiatives and 18 upcoming smart initiatives.

“We are the most advanced state in the northern region.

“Thus, the state government is targeting to become the first state to complete a total of 100 smart initiatives by the end of year,’’ he said.
