PENANG is given the honour by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to host this year’s Olympic Day on June 23.
In conjunction with that, OCM, in collaboration with the Penang government and the Penang State Sports Council, will organise the Olympic Carnival Penang 2019 throughout the month of June.
“The Olympic Carnival Penang 2019 will have a total of four sports, namely badminton, bowling, sepak takraw and volleyball in June at selected venues,” said state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee during Olympic Carnival roadshow at SMJK Jit Sin on April 9.
According to him, another highlight is the 5km Family Fun Walk that would be held on June 23, the actual World Olympic Day, at the Esplanade in George Town.
“All Family Fun Walk participants are entitled to get their finisher medals. The top three winners of the four sports will be awarded medals.
Soon encouraged the schools, parents, students, teachers and Penangites to take part in the Olympic carnival, including the Fun Walk with family and friends.
SMJK Jit Sin principal Lim Tean Aun, who was present, said events like the Olympic carnival would be a golden opportunity for students to .
“This might be a great platform for students to show their talents,” he added.
The Olympic Carnival Penang 2019 will be integrated into the school co-curriculum whereby primary and secondary students are entitled to curriculum points.
They will be given 14 marks as a gesture of appreciation for their state-level sports participation since the carnival has been recognised by the Education Ministry.
The events highlighted in Olympic Carnival Penang 2019 are open to all Malaysians. There are different age groups and categories for the four sports.
The participation fee for each sport varies.
The participants will be given the Olympic Carnival Penang 2019 Li-Ning T-shirt and certificate of participation.
As for now, entries have been received from Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.
