Organisation brings hope to many

HOLDING steadfast to its values that drive it to help the needy, One Hope Charity and Welfare Berhad (One Hope) is increasing its allocation to help more people.

One Hope chairman Chua Sui Hau said the organisation was raising its allocation to RM10 million this year.

“We apportioned about RM8 million last year to assist those who are in need.

“Our charitable body has helped thousands of people since it was established in 2002.

“We are very happy for those who have recovered from their illnesses; and the poor no longer having to starve.

“Your happiness gives us the strength to continue helping more people,” he said in his speech during the One Hope Chinese New Year open house and slogan launching event at Vangohh Premier Hotel in Bukit Mertajam today.

The annual event was held to celebrate those whom the organisation had helped in the past.

Some 800 guests (those who had received aid from One Hope and their family members) were treated to a sumptuous meal at the event.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised One Hope for their charitable efforts.

“The organisation has helped thousands of people – assisting in medical operation costs, giving out wheel chairs, paying for medical expenses and others.

“I am very impressed with the commitment shown by the team from One Hope. The organisation offers their help to anyone regardless of their beliefs or background.

“They treat everyone as equal and as part of their family.

“One Hope has grown from 20 volunteers when it was first established, to more than 2,000 volunteers nationwide, today,” Chow said.

Chow said that the organisation took an excerpt from his speech on Nov 28 last year and made it the organisation’s slogan.

“During the critical asset presentation ceremony on Nov 28 last year, I spontaneously said that one should ‘never wait for the perfect moment do charity, but make every moment perfect to do charity’.

“I did not realise that the excerpt had such a huge impact on One Hope.

“One Hope decided to use ‘Make Every Moment Charity Perfect’ as the organisation’s slogan,” he said.

Chua said the organisation hoped to set up a booth at the Penang Hospital and Seberang Jaya Hospital to help those emergency patients; such as those who need immediate medical attention but are facing financial constraints.

“We have written to both hospitals and are discussing the matter with them,” he said.

Also present at the open house were state executive council members Chong Eng and Phee Boon Poh, Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee, and One Hope advisors Datuk Seri R. Arunasalam and Ang Beng Hock.
