PENANG is confident that the state could find potential areas of collaboration which could benefit both the state and Uzbekistan.

In thanking the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov for his visit to Penang, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said there were many areas for both parties to explore.

“Penang and Uzbekistan can explore opportunities in areas such as tourism, education, business, arts and culture.

“Penang, as one of the top tourist destinations, welcomes the people to Uzbekistan to come to visit.

“Come and enjoy our culture, food, and hospitality,” he said after the courtesy visit by Usmanov at his office today. Also present were Suhrob Vaseev (Deputy Head of Mission, Political Counsellor) and Elbek Saidov (First Secretary).

Usmanov said he has been heavily promoting Penang to the people of Uzbekistan, and also welcomed Penangites to visit Uzbekistan.

“A photo exhibition of ‘Uzbekistan: the Centre of Islamic Civilization’ is now ongoing at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur after it was launched on March 1. It will be held until the end of April.

“We hope to have a similar exhibition in Penang after we complete in Kuala Lumpur. We hope it will attract more people to learn about our country,” he said.
