THE Penang government has no objection to the proposed National Technology Financial Centre being established as a national-level centre, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.

He said the state was waiting for the approval process to be completed before holding further discussions with senior officers from the Finance Ministry (MOF) on the next steps to realise the project.

“We expect the approval process to be completed before any further meetings are held with senior MOF officers to discuss how we can begin the necessary work to realise the project,” he said when asked about the matter by reporters.

Chow said the state government was open to the centre taking on a national role.

“We have no objection if it becomes a national centre,” he said.

On the name of the proposed centre, Chow said discussions were still ongoing, and further deliberations are needed.

“For now, we will continue using the provisional name,” he said.
