PENANG FC today unveiled its official jersey for the 2026/2027 season, featuring a design inspired by George Town’s Peranakan heritage as part of efforts to strengthen the club’s identity.
State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman and Penang FC board chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said the new jersey represents more than just the team’s attire for the upcoming season.
In his speech at the jersey launch ceremony at Bumbledees Cafe in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today, Gooi said the jersey tells a story of Penang’s identity and heritage while instilling a sense of pride among its people.
“The jersey is not merely about introducing our official kit for a new season. It carries a story, an identity and a sense of pride for Penang.
“For this season, the design is inspired by the uniqueness of George Town’s Peranakan heritage, which is closely associated with Penang’s history, arts, architecture and culture,” he said.
Gooi pointed out every element incorporated into the jersey, including its patterns, motifs, form and colours, was carefully designed to reflect the beauty and significance of Peranakan heritage.
He added that heritage serves as the central theme and defining identity of the jersey.
“We want the jersey not only to look attractive on the pitch but also to carry a greater value by connecting heritage with sports, tradition with the younger generation, and Penang’s identity with the spirit of Penang FC,” he said.
Describing Penang as a state with a rich and unique history, Gooi said its heritage buildings, architecture, Peranakan culture and multicultural society collectively shape the state’s distinct identity.

“As such, we have translated this richness into a jersey that can be worn by everyone, not merely as sportswear but as a symbol of pride for Penang.
“I hope that whenever someone wears this jersey, they will not only see an attractive design but also appreciate the story, history and spirit of Penang embedded within it,” he added.
Gooi also expressed hope that Penang FC players would carry the spirit and pride of the entire state whenever they don the new jersey on the field.
He thanked official jersey sponsor Football Thai Factory Sporting Goods Co., Ltd (FBT), KOPA, sponsors, strategic partners and the club’s management team for their continued support of Penang FC.
Meanwhile, Penang FC head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Hassan is optimistic about the team’s prospects ahead of the new season, targeting a top five finish for the upcoming season.
He believes the current squad has demonstrated greater capability and depth compared to last season, with the blend of youth and experience providing a solid foundation for the team to compete more effectively.
“Our coaching staff and players are focused on ensuring Penang FC begins the season on the right footing and delivers positive results from the outset,” he said.
Also present during the event were Consul-General of Thailand in Penang Psusist Wongsurawat, Penang FC general manager Jeffrey Chew and KOPA director Nik Mohd Iqbal.
