THE state government continues to prioritise community welfare through the i-Sejahtera programme, reaffirming its commitment to ensure no group is left behind.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Padang Kota) highlighted the initiative while tabling the Penang Budget 2026 at the State Legislative Assembly in Light Street today.
Chow noted that in 2024, RM56.24 million was disbursed under the programme, including funeral expenses aid, benefiting 286,335 recipients in the state.
“As of 31 October 2025, the state government has spent RM53.57 million, supporting 287,923 recipients and sustaining essential assistance for senior citizens, single mothers, individuals with disabilities, chronic patients, and low-income families.
“Being a caring government committed to welfare, Penang will continue the i-Sejahtera programme with a proposed allocation of RM65 million,” Chow said.
This ongoing implementation of i-Sejahtera reflects Penang’s commitment to building a caring, supportive, and socially resilient state for all.
In addition, Chow shared that Penang, as a harmonious state that embraces religious diversity and celebrates major festivals, has continuously organised the ‘Religious Exploration Programme’ and interfaith dialogue sessions.
“Apart from that, the Penang Harmony Celebration continues to be held, with two new Streets of Harmony introduced in Bukit Mertajam and Bayan Lepas.
“Overall, the state government allocates at least RM5 million to support the programmes and infrastructure projects of all the non-Islamic Houses of Worship (RIBs) in Penang.
“The figure excludes the RM150,000 allocated under the non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee as well as funds made available through RIBI account.
“As of September 2025, a total of 77 RIBIs received contribution from the state government for the implementation of various programmes and upgrading projects,” Chow added.
