PENANG is willing to be the host for 2028 Sukma after last hosting it in 2000.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said while the state would be prepared to be the 2028 Sukma host, much would depend on the decision of the Sukma executive committee.

Soon (PH-Bagan Jermal) said this in reply to Goh Choon Aik (PH-Bukit Tambun) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the State Assembly building in Light Street today.

Goh had wanted to know whether the state was willing to be the 2028 Sukma host since there is still a vacancy. Kuala Lumpur will play host in 2022, Johor in 2024 and Kelantan in 2026.

Furthermore, Goh was also interested in having additional sports facilities at the Batu Kawan Stadium, and a Sports Village in Batu Kawan.

“The Sports Village can help provide accommodation to local as well as outstation athletes for any games or for training purposes. Right now, for instance, football players have to travel from afar from SPU (north Seberang Perai) and Balik Pulau for training,” Goh said.
