THE Penang government is confident that it will continue to be at the forefront; driven by green economy, innovative governance and sustainable development.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Penang’s four-pronged vision listed in the Penang 2030 – to increase liveability to enhance quality of life, upgrade the economy, empower the people to strengthen civic participation and invest in the built environment – would take the state to a new level.

“The public and private sectors need to continuously uphold good corporate governance. Having a good product or service is not enough.

“The Penang government has taken the lead when it signed the corruption-free pledge in August last year. We even included 10 additional measures to strengthen our pledge.

“This shows that govenment has always been at the forefront to propel the state forward.

“We hope that our effort will be able to instill confidence in our existing and prospective investors to continue building their future in Penang,” Chow said in his speech at the 2018 Promise of Integrity Annual Conference at Intel Penang PG16 in Bayan Lepas today.

Chow congratulated the five founding members of the Promise of Integrity Alliance – B Braun Medical Industries, Intel Malaysia, Keysight Technologies, Motorola Solutions and SilTerra Malaysia – for their leadership and making a commitment together to uphold the highest business ethics and integrity.

Keysight Technologies global procurement and materials vice-president Chan Keng Cheong said the five companies came together more than two years ago to share and spread their practice of integrity and business ethics.

“Last year, our supplier partners joined us and pledge to uphold the ‘promise of integrity’.

“Many sharing sessions have been held and the alliance continues to forge ahead.

“We have gone far beyond the initial supplier workgroup.

“The alliance has also developed a five-year strategic roadmap (2018 – 2022) with the objective to build momentum, establish a brand presence and rallying key stakeholders to join the cause,” Chan said in his speech.

Keysight Technologies was the lead for this year’s conference, while Intel Malaysia was the host.

Also present at the conference were investPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, Intel Malaysia managing director and Intel Corporation corporate vice-president Robin Martin, B Braun Medical Industries vice-president of supply chain management and procurement Asia Pacific Rahul Teotia, Motorola Solutions deputy managing director and director of global supply John Andersen, SilTerra Malaysia chief operating officer Kader Ibrahim Abdul Wahab and Bemis Asia Pacific president Lim Bee Leong.

Lim was representing the Promise of Integrity Supplier Alliance.

Over 280 guests from the industries, government agencies and non-governmental organisations attended the event.

Transparency International Malaysia president Datuk Akhbar Satar gave an insightful presentation on ‘Integrity in Malaysia: The Way Forward’.

There was also a discussion on the topic ‘Integrity in the Public and Private Sectors’.

Chow toured the Intel Penang PG7 and PG8 buildings after opening the conference.
