THE much-anticipated Penang Hill Festival (PHF 2026) is set to return for its seventh edition from July 17 to 19, inviting visitors to explore the island’s iconic hill through a vibrant blend of nature, heritage, culture and creativity.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the festival continues to grow in scale and significance, reflecting the global importance of Penang Hill as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you to the launch of the seventh edition of the Penang Hill Festival, taking place from 17 to 19 July 2026.

“Set atop the lush, cool heights of Penang Hill, this festival is more than a celebration, but an invitation to experience one of Malaysia’s most iconic destinations, where nature, heritage, and culture come together in perfect harmony,” he said.

He noted that since its recognition as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve in 2021, Penang Hill has become a symbol of biodiversity, conservation and sustainable development.

“This designation reminds us that Penang Hill is not only a popular tourist destination and the green lung of Penang Island, but also a living laboratory where nature and humans coexist,” he added.

Wong also highlighted the festival’s rising popularity, from over 18,000 visitors in 2023 to more than 23,000 in 2025, with nearly 25,000 visitors expected this year.

“We have specially curated programmes and invited scientists and professionals who work on projects on Penang Hill to share their knowledge,” he said.

Cheok added that the festival is a platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

“This is a festival of celebration and sharing of knowledge, experiences, and the nature and environment that we can all enjoy, not just for the present generation but for future generations,” he said.

Among the highlights is the signature “Music on the Hill, East meets West” concert on July 19, featuring five local performing groups, including students with special needs from AIM Educare Learning Centre, showcasing traditional and contemporary music against the scenic hilltop backdrop.

A new addition this year is the “From Hill to Plate” Dining Experience, offering a farm-to-table journey that introduces plant-based cuisine using locally grown produce from Penang Hill.

“The public will be able to get a postcard and start their journey collecting stamps from four different stations. Each station will highlight the location or the history of Penang Hill,” she said.

She added that two mascots will guide visitors throughout the activity.

“These two mascots will tell the story of Penang Hill, sharing information about species we should protect and the hill’s architecture, leading visitors to explore different locations,” she said.

Meanwhile, Wong, warmly invited the public to take part in the festival.

“I warmly invite everyone to join us this 17–19 July, to explore, learn, and enjoy the wonder of Penang Hill,” he said.

With a diverse lineup of talks, workshops, walks and performances, PHF 2026 promises an enriching three-day celebration designed to inspire deeper appreciation for Penang Hill’s natural, historical and cultural significance.
