Plexus’ newly expanded Penang Design Center to further enhance design and development competencies

PLEXUS, a leading engineering, manufacturing and aftermarket services provider has increased the capacity of its Penang Design Center.

The center was moved from its existing location at the Plexus Penang-Riverside facility to the Penang-Islandview facility, located in the same industrial campus in Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone.

Plexus senior vice-president of Global Engineering Operations Randy Hrnicek said the culture in Penang matched ‘very well’ with the corporate culture in Plexus.

“We want to be part of a successful growing community.

“We feel that the people of Penang speak very good English. This is a critical skill for us, as we attend to our customers in the global marketplace and dealing with our global engineering teams.

“Penang also offers lower cost engineering resources than some parts in the world. For these reasons and other reasons, Plexus is excited to continue to grow in Penang,” he said in his speech during the launching ceremony to mark the opening of the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Advanced Innovation Center (Design and Development) at the Penang Design Center in Plexus Penang-Islandview facility today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the AT Kearney Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Index 2018 indicated that the Asia Pacific region was among the most preferred location of choice for FDI.

“We want to attract more investments and to continue our efforts to become the preferred destination of choice for investors.

“Penang recorded the largest FDI inflow of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) approved manufacturing FDIs among the states in Malaysia, valued at RM8.5 billion.

“Penang is also the second top recipient of total manufacturing investment among the states, valued at RM10.8 billion.

“Domestic investment also grew steadily by 92% year-on-year to reach RM2.3 billion in 2017.

“Penang is now home to more than 300 multinational corporations (MNCs) and more than 3,000 supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs),” Chow said.
