THREE schools from the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency, namely SJKC Kampung Valdor, SJKC True Light and SK Taman Inderawasih, have benefited from the donation of laptops by Plexus Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.

A total of 30 laptops were distributed among the schools as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The three schools represent their respective state constituencies of Perai, Bukit Tengah, and Bukit Tambun.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who attended the laptop presentation ceremony, highlighted the importance of enhancing digital literacy among students to better prepare them for the demands of the digital age.

Also present were state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, who is also the Perai assemblyman, and Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik.

Chow said that the Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013–2025) and the Digital Education Policy (2023) have made significant progress in advancing digital learning. However, he said many rural schools continue to face challenges such as limited connectivity, lack of access to devices, and issues related to teacher readiness.

“Plexus, a technology-driven company, has worked closely with the state government to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education through a range of initiatives, including the Penang Science Fair and MakerLab.

“This meaningful gesture shows Plexus’ strong commitment to giving back to the community and its belief that education and technology must go hand in hand to build a better future for our young people,” Chow added.

He also expressed hope that the laptops would empower students to unlock knowledge by exploring ideas, conducting research, and acquiring vital digital and technological skills essential for their secondary and tertiary education, as well as their future endeavours.

“The state government has adopted multiple approaches to enhance digital literacy, with proactive engagement from the private sector.

“Through the combined efforts of the government, private sector, industry, and academia, significant progress has been made, demonstrating that we are indeed stronger together.

“To all the students, we hope this contribution will provide the impetus to continue excelling. It will also aid teachers in enhancing both learning and teaching,” he added.

Plexus APAC regional president Victor Tan shared that Plexus is deeply committed to supporting and promoting STEM education in Penang.

“In this year alone, we have seen more than 8,000 participants take part in 32 STEM programmes supported by Plexus.

“Today’s initiative reflects our dedication to empowering young learners and investing in the future of education and technology in Penang.

“We extend our appreciation to the state government and our community partners for their continued collaboration and support. We look forward to driving further growth, innovation, and opportunities for Penang and beyond,” Tan said.
