PENANG Masters Athletics Association (PMAA) newly elected president Prof Dr Tan Yen Wooi has announced a personal sponsorship of RM20,000 in cash incentives following the association’s first committee meeting.
“The incentive scheme is aimed at encouraging members to actively participate in upcoming national and international Masters athletics competitions,” he said.
He noted that the 38th Malaysia International Open Masters Athletics Championships (MIOMAC) will be held from June 5 to 7 at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Stadium in Serdang, Selangor. Gold, silver and bronze medallists will receive RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively, while participants who do not win medals will still receive a RM50 participation reward.
Meanwhile, the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships (WMAC) will take place in Daegu, South Korea, from Aug 22 to Sept 3. The rewards are RM1,000 for gold, RM800 for silver and RM500 for bronze.
Tan expressed hope that the Penang team, which finished 10th in last year’s national competition, will improve its performance this year and bring glory to Penang.
The RM20,000 reward fund will be split equally, with RM10,000 allocated for national competitions and RM10,000 for international competitions. All payouts are subject to association verification and approval and will be distributed on a “first-come, first-served” basis until the funds are fully utilised.
PMAA invites members of the public to participate actively, embrace a healthy lifestyle, and bring pride to Penang.
