THE Penang government officially entered a joint venture with Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC YES) to organise the Youth Excellence Award (YEA 2021) to recognise young entrepreneurs and frontliners of profound performances during this Covid-19 era.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the main objective was to acknowledge the willingness of young entrepreneurs and frontliners who have gone out of their comfort zones to achieve great things.

“As we all know, the young people of today are the future of our nation. In fact, being creative and innovative is an essential focus in youth development.

“The development of entrepreneurial spirit contributes greatly to the positive development of young people and their communities. It is also a considerable step towards positive change in social, communal and political policies in the future.

“Hence, I would like to emphasise the importance of organising this award programme during this Covid-19 climate, which will help empower the participants to further develop different aspects of soft skills,” Soon said during a virtual press conference today.

The nomination for the award programme will be from Sept 11 to Oct 31, and registration is free.

Soon, during his speech, added that those aged 18 to 40 could participate in this initiative.

“There are a total of 15 categories. Five awardees will be selected for each category by a panel of professional judges.

“I would like to thank PCCC YES for collaborating with the state government on this initiative.

“May our efforts in building the young minds and frontliners for the future be fruitful as planned,” Soon said.
