Recognition of excellence in engineering and technology

THE Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) rewarded 13 individuals with the Industry Excellence and Outstanding Industry Award during the Prestige Lecture and Award Dinner (PLAD) 2023 at Eastin Hotel in Bayan Lepas recently.

Held annually, the PLAD aims to recognise industry players and individuals in engineering and technology who have significantly contributed to research and development, innovation, manufacturing and engineering services.

The event was attended by about 270 IET members on Nov 25.

Gracing the ceremony was its guest of honour Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hashim.

In his speech, Dr Aminuddin commended the recipients for their outstanding achievements and called for the continuation of innovation in engineering, science and technology among the experts in the industry.

“To attain a developed nation status by 2030, it is imperative that we embark on fundamental transformation, reshaping this configuration into an inverted pyramid with a substantial increase in high-skilled workers. This shift not only pushes the boundaries of knowledge but also fosters the development of cutting-edge solutions.

“I understand the awards to be presented tonight acknowledge the excellence in a variety of categories, ranging from innovation to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

“They serve as beacons of inspiration not only lighting the way for their peers but also for the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs,” Dr Aminuddin said in his speech.

In the absence of Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, PLAD 2023 chairman Khoo Boo Wooi took the stage and thanked all the attendees for their tremendous show of support, as well as the volunteers of IET working behind the scenes, to make this event a success.
