THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will be holding an online registration for open interview for those who want to rent vacant stalls at its food complexes, markets and hawker centres this month.

MBPP alternate chairman of licensing & public health committee Nicholas Theng Jie Wey said no walk-in registration would be entertained except for those aged and without access to internet services under the current recovery movement control order (RMCO).

He said the online registration as well as the walk-in registration (for exceptional cases) would be held from July 10 to July 16 and the on-site interviews would be conducted on July 21.

For any registration assistance, applicants can walk-in to enquire from the Licensing Office or call 04-2638818, ext 307/08/09.

“There are vacant stalls available at 12 complexes, five markets and three temporary hawker sites,” Theng told a press conference at the City Hall in Esplanade today.

“We’ll interview the applicants batch by batch because of social distancing.

“We’re doing this as soon as possible so that they can start their business.”

Theng added that those interested could check the MBPP Facebook page for the infographic on the registration process and other details on the stalls available.

Also present were MBPP councillors Alan Lim Wei Lun and Mohd Suhairi Arumugam Abdullah, and MBPP chief public health officer Intan Amran Chew.
