WOMEN in leadership roles today gathered for a fruitful session in Penang such as sharing and exchanging valuable ideas for future development of various sectors in the state.

The programme was called ‘A Session With Chong Eng: Women Power in Penang’.

Chong Eng, who is in charge of the state Women and Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and Religions Other Than Islam, said women power is the way forward as many initiatives have been conducted while some are still ongoing.

“A lot of women fail to realise their capabilities, therefore, through the many initiatives by my office and the state government, we hope to educate all women to rise and shine in their respective areas of talent.

“Since I assumed office as the state executive councillor in 2013, one of my goals under my current portfolio, is to make a change in terms of women power and how it should be rightly perceived by the society.

“I am glad that through the help and contribution from NGOs and related governmental bodies, many initiatives were undertaken,” said Chong Eng during the session at JEN Hotel in George Town today.

Three policies, namely Childcare Policy, Gender Inclusiveness Policy and State Safe Family Policy, were formulated in 2013, 2019 and 2020 respectively to spearhead relevant activities.

Speaking to the participants, Chong Eng mentioned that several programmes such as International Women’s Day (IWD), Penang Goes Orange (PGO), Gender 101 and Capacity Building, Networking of Women and many others were organised under the said policies.

The session saw the participation of representatives from Women Centre for Change (WCC), Penang Green Council (PGC), Sneham Malaysia, InvestPenang and many others.

Also present were state Agriculture, Agro-based Industries, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim and Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
