THE RM500 one-off payment for registered hawkers and small traders under the Penang Aid Package as announced by the Penang government recently has been extended until Aug 8.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said a total of 2,647 hawkers in Penang island and Seberang Perai have yet to receive their payment as of July 26.

He said there was a total of 13,967 qualified recipients under the first phase of the Penang Aid Package.

“As of July 26, 151 out of 6,957 registered hawkers and traders in the island have yet to receive payment while there are 2,496 people out of 7,010 in the mainland who have also yet to receive payment.

“This is due to the fact that they did not submit their bank information for the payment purposes,” he told a press conference in Komtar today.

On the second phase of Penang Aid Package, Jagdeep noted there were still qualified recipients who have yet to submit their bank information for payment purposes.

Under this phase, the state government has also allocated special assistance payments to hawkers or stallholders in food complexes and shop lots.

“Of the 3,241 eligible recipients, a total of 1,577 have yet to receive payment as most of them did not submit their bank information or their payment is still in process,” he added.

Jagdeep pointed out a total of 3,922 recipients out of 5,492 tagging traders have yet to receive the payment.

Those in the mainland who have yet to receive the payment can visit the MBSP counter while those in the island can check the MBPP portal for further information.

Also present during the press conference were MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud and MBPP secretary Datuk Addnan Mohd Razali.
