MOTORISTS in Air Itam and its vicinity would now have a smoother drive after the 600-metre Lorong Batu Lanchang has been retarred by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

The retarred road from Lebuhraya Thean Tek to the flyover in Lorong Batu Lanchang, which took five days of work, was completed on Sept 28.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng told the reporters that the cost incurred was RM312,703.28.

“The cost was borne by MBPP to ensure motorists can have better accessibility to town and vice-versa.

“As of now, only the left lane from Lorong Batu Lanchang to Air Itam has yet to be retarred as the road will undergo some cable connection works. It is expected to be completed by the end of next month,” he said.

Ng said the road markings were now being carried out and would be wrapped in two days.

MBPP Engineering Department acting director Cheah Chin Kooi said the road was repaired for the convenience of road users.

Among those present were MBPP councillors Rohaizat Hamid and Tan Soo Siang.
