THE Robomania 2025 National Grand Finale made history today as 616 students from 158 schools across 11 states, including Kuala Lumpur, converged at KOMTAR and Tech Dome Penang for the much-anticipated event.

Now in its seventh year, the annual robotics competition, organised by Tech Dome Penang, has grown from its early days of line-following and obstacle avoidance challenges into a nationwide platform that inspires creativity and passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Newer categories such as robot football and the Trial League continue to attract young innovators, with this year marking its largest participation to date.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said Robomania has proven to be more than just a competition, but also a catalyst for nurturing future STEM leaders.

“What is most inspiring is seeing students take ownership of their learning process by designing, building, and even repairing their own robots.

“This spirit of curiosity and innovation is exactly what we want to see in the leaders of tomorrow.

“Penang aspires to be a hub of technology and innovation, and by investing in young talent, we are laying a strong foundation for the future,” he said during his address.

Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi highlighted the scale and inclusivity of this year’s programme, with preliminary rounds held in Penang, Kuching, Miri, Johor, and Kuala Lumpur. Sixteen top teams advanced to the finale, while the newly introduced Trial League allowed first-time participants from resource-limited schools to experience robotics and teamwork.

“Today’s finale hosts 256 students and 80 teachers across two venues, Komtar at Level 3 and Tech Dome Penang at Level 4.

“This event is not only a competition but also a celebration of learning, innovation, and collaboration,” he said, adding his gratitude to co-organisers, sponsors, and partners for their steadfast support.

Teh also reminded participants that their true achievement lies in the knowledge gained and the resilience built throughout the process.

“Whether you win or not, you are all champions. The knowledge and experience you have gained are invaluable. I look forward to seeing these bright young minds grow and contribute to the future of Penang and Malaysia,” he concluded.
