Sending a strong message to stop violence against women and children

EIGHTEEN Women and Family Development Committees (JPWKs) in various state constituencies delivered a strong message to the community to stop domestic violence when they took part in the JPWK-PGO Flash Mob Dance in Karpal Singh Drive here.

 

 

Penang Goes Orange (PGO) is celebrated annually in November since 2014. Penang is the first state in the country to run this campaign, with the objective to raise awareness about violence against women and children.

 

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present at the event, congratulated the JPWKs, Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) for continuously raising awareness and addressing matters concerning domestic violence.

“Such events can show that we care and we take the mission seriously,” Chow said today.

 

 

Chow also conveyed his thanks to Penang Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng for her efforts to make PGO successful.

 

 

The participants performed a flash mob dance after Chow hit the gong three times.

The dance is specially curated to include sign language. The song ‘Stand Up, Be Strong’ by Jeryl Lee Pei Ling was played during the dance.

 

 

Also present were Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee, Pulau Betong assemblyman Mohd Tuah Ismail and PWDC chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng.
