Showcasing wushu, lion dance on world stage

THE upcoming Asia-Pacific Masters Game 2018 (APMG) will feature wushu and lion dance for the very first time on an international platform.

APMG 2018  chairman Chong Eng shared her excitement on the inclusion of wushu and lion dance in the games.

“It is important that we use the opportunity of hosting the Masters Games here in Asia (Malaysia) for the very first time to give the limelight to sports that are rich in culture and tradition.

“As of today, a total of 200 participants have confirmed their registration for wushu and also 20 lion dance teams.

“The minimum age to enter wushu and lion dance is 30,” said Chong Eng at a press conference on July 18.

Both the sport events will be held at the SPICE Convention Centre. Some 22 sports will be contested over a nine-day period at 23 venues across Penang from Sept 7-15.

The age limit to participate is 30 except for the swimming events. “Until today, some 3,000 participants from over 57 countries have registered for APMG 2018.

“Each participant will receive a APMG 2018 T-shirt and a backpack .

“I would like to urge everyone who is 30 and above, especially Penangites and Malaysians, not to miss this golden opportunity to become part of a historic sports event in our own home ground,” she added.

Also present during the press conference were Komtar assemblymember Teh Lai Heng, and Penang Wushu and Lion Dance Association president Datuk H’ng Ban Choon.
