DEPUTY Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy made a courtesy visit to the Industrial Training Institute Arumugam Pillai (ILPAPNT) at Nibong Tebal today morning.

Ramasamy was welcomed by Director of ILPAPNT Azman Ibrahim and they both discussed and exchanged ideas on how to increase the student intake for ILPAPNT. They also discussed about benefits to students in choosing ILPAPNT as their institution of higher learning.

The 30-minute discussion touched on the various types of courses being offered to students, allowances, student enrolment, career carnival and programmes carried out by ILPAPNT.

Azman said that ILPAPNT offers many courses for students after their Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM). The industrial training process will also prepare the students for their jobs. Industrial training will also enhance their personal skills including presentation skills.

“It gives students a glimpse on how they will be doing their work in future. They gain some work experience during such training.

“We are offering courses with free hostel, free meals, no course fee and RM100 as allowances for students. This is one opportunity for students to start their careers after graduating from ILPAPNT,” Azman said.

Ramasamy also joined a short tour after the discussion and was briefed by ILPAPNT delegates on how to operate machines and its functions. The ILPAPNT is the only institute that offers printing programmes for its students.

After the short tour, Ramasamy said the future of Malaysia mainly depends on skilled workers. ILPAPNT contributes to the community by playing a pivotal role in equpping students with necessary skills.

“ILPAPNT gives priority to students’ interests, attitudes and behaviors as a requirement for them to enrol even though they did not have credits in SPM.

“I welcome the collaboration between the state government through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) body with other ILP’s in Penang especially in Nibong Tebal. Not only that, I hope Penang Skills Develoment Centre (PSDC), STEM and some other institutes on the island can contribute towards improving skills-based studies which would propel Penang to greater heights,” Ramasamy added.
