Special ops by MBPP to ensure adherence to MCO

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has carried out a special operation at several entertainment premises yesterday (March 18).

MBPP licensing senior officer Mohamad Badri Zakaria said the operation was conducted to make sure owners adhere to the movement control order (MCO) period by not opening their entertainment outlets.

“The operation involved several locations in George Town such as in Pulau Tikus, Macalister Road, Magazine Road and Beach Street.

“From these locations, we have issued out over 50 notices to all these entertainment premises during the operation that started since early in the morning (March 18).

“The notice serves as an order to the owners to make sure their premises stay close and are not operational.

“We have also given them a friendly warning and explain to them that an action under the law could be taken against them if they ignore the order by continuing to open their premises.

“The operation will be conducted from time to time on entertainment outlets and other type of premises as well,” Mohamad Badri told reporters during the operation yesterday.

On March 16, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that MCO would be implemented from March 18 to March 31 to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It is based on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967.
