STATE Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the green wave traffic will be among the efforts to be taken by the state government to relieve the traffic congestion in the southwest district.

Zairil (PH-Tanjong Bungah) was responding to an oral question by Azrul Mahathir Aziz (PH-Bayan Lepas) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the State Assembly Building in Light Street today.

“The green wave can be created by coordinating the traffic light system to allow a continuous traffic flow over several intersections. And it will help to ease the traffic flow and reduce congestion.

“Other initiatives will be the upgrading of Jalan Tun Dr Awang/Jalan Bukit Gambir junction by constructing an interchange as well as an underpass at Bayan Baru roundabout.

“This construction work will be done by the developer for the Penang International Commercial City (PICC) project and is expected to be completed in 2027,” he said.

Zairil also said that the state government encourages the green mode of transport by providing new bicycle lanes as well as upgrading the existing ones.
