THE Lions Club of Bayan Baru District 308 B2 handed over a total of 120 food baskets to the Batu Maung service centre to be distributed to the families who are under quarantine as well as those who are affected financially by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who received the contribution from the members of the club, thanked the club for their kind gesture.

He said the neighbourhood of Batu Maung, which falls under Mukim 12, saw a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases since the second week of August. It has now become a hotspot for Covid-19 cases.

“This resulted in many families being quarantined as well as losing their source of income.

“Thus, our service centre provides some 25 food baskets to this group of people daily.

“Seventy percent of the food baskets are given to those who are under quarantine and the other 30 percent to people whose livelihoods are affected due to the pandemic.

“We are glad that the Lions Club of Bayan Baru District 308 B2 has come forward to give us a helping hand for the third time,’’ said Abdul Halim during the handover ceremony at the Batu Maung service on Sept 1.
