RESIDENTS of a low-cost flat at Taman Desa Damai in Jalan Nangka, Bukit Mertajam have something to cheer about when several roads there have been successfully paved.

State executive councillor for Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Chong Eng said the paving works were carried out from July to November this year at the cost of RM96,000.

“The paving works also included the widening of the drains near the flat.

“They were fully borne by Padang Lalang service centre.

“This project is important because previously we received some feedback from the residents here that there were many potholes on the roads.

“And I am also glad that the alleys have been successfully paved to ensure their safety,” Chong Eng told reporters during her visit to the flat in Bukit Mertajam today.

Chong Eng, who is also the Padang Lalang assemblyman, announced that the morning market at Taman Desa Damai has been allowed to operate after the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) had given the license in July this year.

The morning market at Taman Desa Damai has been allowed to operate after the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) had given the license in July this year.

“This market has been operating for more than 20 years and currently it has more than 30 market traders.

“So, it is a good news for them to continue to run their businesses here and earn a living,” she added.

At the market, Chong Eng distributed calendars for the year 2021 to market-goers and traders.

“We also distributed special brochures to raise awareness on violence against women, in view of the ‘Penang Goes Orange’ campaign that annually takes place from November to December,” she said.
