Technological progress in agriculture sector is vital, says chief minister

PENANG has to modernise its agriculture sector to keep up with the Industry 4.0.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said there was a need for the state to develop the agriculture sector.

“Technology advancement in this sector can benefit the state in areas such as crop production and animal husbandry.

“Sustainability is the key to an ideal family-focused, green and smart state. We must not overlook food security and safety, as they indirectly affect our health,” Chow said in his speech during the Standard Chartered Malaysia Global Research Briefing 2019 Penang Chapter at E&O Hotel this evening.

Chow said heath and wellbeing of a community affect the level of happiness.

“A happy community will contribute to higher productivity, hence, increases economic gain.

“This summarises the objective behind the Penang2030 vision. The components are inter-related.

“Each unit in the family has a role to play, to be supportive of the industry and the state,” he said.

He added that success is only achievable through participation and commitment from everyone in the society – the government, private sector, civil organisation and individuals.

“The Penang2030 vision was conceived after a holistic review of the various state projects and initiatives that are on-going in Penang,” he said.

Chow said that more efforts are needed to improve the social wellbeing of Penangites.
