WHILE immersing in the historical ambiance of Fort Cornwallis and indulging in mouth-watering cuisines, the visitors at the ‘Penang International Food Festival 2023-Gourmet Stars of Penang’ had a unique gastronomic experience.

The ‘Gourmet Stars’ was held for two days, June 9 and 10, and was one of the food series of the PIFF 2023, which saw the participation of the Michelin Guide awardees.

At the festival, the office of the state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), had also launched the Michelin Guide video and brochure.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the Michelin Guide video, which will also be featured on Michelin Guide’s social media platform, will further help to promote Penang on a global scale.

“The Michelin video and brochure demonstrate the culinary excellence of our beloved Penang, inviting visitors to experience the flavours, aromas, and vibrant culture that puts Penang on the Michelin Guide’s radar.

“For the first time in PIFF’s history, we have a platform to showcase our Michelin Guide recognition alongside our unique local flavours and international cuisines.

“Other than the food, heritage is also among Penang’s top tourism attractions, which is why the state government has spent RM20 million for the restoration of Fort Cornwallis’s moats, which will be completed and open to the public by 2025.

“Furthermore, the state has allocated RM1.5 million to convert the restored storerooms of the fort into a mini gallery and it is expected to be completed in August this year,” Yeoh said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the PIFF 2023’s ‘Gourmet Stars’ event at Fort Cornwallis on June 9.

Also present were Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekaran, Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) deputy general manager Datin S. Bharathi and other dignitaries.
