THE water capacity in Teluk Bahang Dam, which recorded the lowest level among the dams in Penang in previous months, has now risen.

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the water capacity at the dam had risen to 19.2% as of Sept 18.

“The water capacity has gone up compared to the previous capacity of 16.4% on Aug 29.

“The rainy season has arrived and we have also started to supply raw water from Sungai Pinang water catchment via a 450mm pipe.

“Overall, there is an increase in the dam’s capacity,” he told Buletin Mutiara in a brief text message.

As of today, the water capacity stood at 33.3% at the Air Itam Dam and 88.5% at the Mengkuang Dam.

Last month, Jaseni had been reported as saying that the Teluk Bahang Dam water reserve could last only 52 more days to serve 38,000 registered consumers in Teluk Bahang, Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Bungah.

In fact, eight cloud seeding operations had been commissioned in the water catchment areas of the dam.
