FOLLOWING the success of the World Congress on Innovation & Technology 2022 (WCIT 2022) in September in Penang, an appreciation luncheon (Penang Partners Appreciation Luncheon) was held today at Jen Hotel Penang.

During the event, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said he felt proud to be working with all those who were involved in organising the WCIT 2022.

“This accomplishment could not have been achieved if not for everyone’s hard work.

“Everyone’s commitment and involvement in the WCIT 2022 have ensured its smooth-running and lived up to its promise.

“It served as a catalyst to support Malaysia’s economic recovery.

“Thank you to all of you as your hard work gave Penang and Malaysia a good name through WCIT 2022.

“You are definitely the unsung heroes of WCIT 2022,” Chow added.

Chow also thanked Pikom (National Tech Association of Malaysia) for inviting him to the luncheon.

WCIT 2022 was held from Sept 13 to Sept 15 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre.

Meanwhile, Pikom chairman Dr Sean Seah said the WCIT 2022 three-day congress as well as the five-day TechFest had attracted more than 4,000 delegates and 200 speakers from 65 countries.

“WCIT 2022 has indeed served as a prime platform on the world stage for innovative discussions between some of the leading key opinion leaders within the tech industry, policymakers and creators of the future.

“There were also positive reports from the participants who attended the Global Leaders Dialogue that was held on the second day of WCIT 2022.

“The dialogue explored platforms of economic collaboration between Malaysia and other countries, including Cambodia, Nigeria, Estonia, Greece, South Africa and Indonesia, to name a few.

“On this note, I would like to thank state executive councillors YB Zairil Khir Johari and YB Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain for being instrumental in leading the discussions at the Global Leaders Dialogue,” Seah said.

Apart from that, Seah also thanked Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Chow and his team, the state government and other agencies for their support.

“Thank you for the commitment, patience and perseverance of waiting three years, since 2019, to present Malaysian hospitality to the world.

“Two weeks ago, an appreciation luncheon was also held in Kuala Lumpur.

“I felt it was only right for us to host one here in Penang with the state government, Penang state executive council and partner agencies,” he added.
