Workshop focuses on sustainable green transport

THIRTY-EIGHT participants attended a workshop on Penang Green Transportation Plan at the Penang Institute today.

State Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, who officiated the workshop, thanked Asian Development Bank for fully sponsoring the workshop which was coordinated by Penang Institute.

“They have identified Penang as a suitable location to do sustainable green transport. They have identified a number of strategies and action plans, especially in George Town. This will be the focus,” Zairil said.

There were four speakers, namely Guido Bruggeman (Penang Green Transportation Plan – An Overview), Yoga Adiwinarto (Transforming Urban Transport in Penang), Willem Brouwer (Parking Policy and Management for Penang) and Kim Ki-joon (How Can We Enable a Transition Towards Electric Vehicles?).

Among those present were assemblymen Teh Lai Heng (Komtar), Daniel Gooi (Pengkalan Kota) and Goh Choon Aik (Bukit Tambun), Chief Minister Incorporated deputy general manager S. Bharathi, IMT-GT (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand Growth Triangle) deputy director Balaurugan Ratha Krishnan and Penang Institute administrator/analyst Muhamad Nur Lokman Redzuan.
