YOUTHS, do you want to become a good leader and voice your thoughts for the betterment of the state and its people?

If that is your desire, participate in the ‘Young Democrat Workshop 2022’ that will be organised by Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC).

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said qualified participants from the workshop would get a chance to be part of the Youth Assembly (second term).

“Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the 35 members of the Youth Assembly who had successfully completed their mission at the first term of the Youth Assembly 2022 held on June 4.

“They performed excellently during their debate at the mock State Legislative Assembly on current issues.

“They have been offered to join the ‘Youth Assembly Member Placement Project’ which will take place from Aug 1 to Oct 31.

“Now, we are glad to announce that the registration for the ‘Young Democrat Workshop 2022’ opens from today onwards,” Dr Gwee said during a press conference held at PYDC centre today.

Dr Gwee said the top 40 participants will be selected to take part in the Youth Assembly at the State Legislative Assembly building.

Dr Gwee said the workshops would be held in two sessions with each session limited to 50 participants who are aged between 15 and 35.

“The first session of the workshop will be conducted at MSU College Penang for two days (Aug 13 &14).

“After the completion of both the sessions, the top 40 participants will be selected to take part in the Youth Assembly at the State Legislative Assembly building.

The second session will take place from Sept 10 to 11 and the venue is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the workshop would help instil values such as critical thinking in solving problems at the community level.

“For instance, ‘Youth Assembly Member Placement Project’ will expose the members to the various problems faced by the community.

“The youths will be sitting together with the respective state assemblyman at the service centres and take note of the problems shared by the public.

“We want the youth to show us that they are ready to lead as we (state government) are always committed to hearing their voices,” Soon added.

Also present were former Youth Assembly members Tan Yi Sheng, Ng Tian Liang, Ong Choon Keat and Lee Joe Sern.
