‘You donate the calories, we donate to those in need’

DO you like to burn calories for a good cause?

Here is an ideal chance for you to do so by joining the ‘Move It! Malaysia:Calorie Burn Challenge 2021’ which is organised by the SEGi University and Colleges (SEGi) and Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) in view of the Malaysia Day celebration.

The challenge is also supported by Anemos, MAMEE, Ticket2u, DEDAILY, GLAMZ at Genting, realme Malaysia, Yogood, CELCIUS, OOMPH, Skip.my and H&L Hypermarket.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the challenge requires each participant to burn 3,000 calories anytime during the challenge period from Sept 14 to Oct 10 this year.

He said when the total calorie burned by all participants reaches 20,000 calories, SEGi University and Colleges would reach out to several homes, including but not limited to those in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak, by sending packed food and basic necessities to them.

“The Penang government through PYDC has taken the initiative to organise this programme to raise public awareness, especially among the youths, of the importance of exercising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“One of our efforts is to create a healthy community, values of determination, courage, respect, fairness, positivity and self-control,” Soon said during a virtual press conference today.

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said sports has always been the agent for unity as it is the best way to bring people together.

“As we all know, the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic has affected many people since the freedom to move and socialising has been limited.

“PYDC has always been providing a platform for youths to involve in such a programme that will enhance themselves as an individual and also to give back to the society,” she said.

SEGi Group of Colleges chief executive officer Stella Lau pointed out that the challenge is organised to ensure the Malaysians can stay fit during the pandemic and at the same time do some charity.

“Through this challenge, public will get to stay healthy by joining it while we have prepared different classes as well to help participants to lose more calories.

” As you donate calories, we donate food to those in need to their homes. It’s not how much we give but how much love and effort we put into giving,” she said.

Also present were PYDC deputy general manager Ng Hooi Ting and SEGi Group of Colleges (Student & Corporate Services) senior manager Edward Low Rong Quan.

There will be a few categories for the participants to choose in this virtual event.

The organisers will also hold free classes such as Zumba, yoga and home workouts to help participants to achieve the target of 3,000 calories.

Registration will be from tomorrow until Sept 30, while the challenge period will start from Sept 14 until Oct 10.

The result submission is from Sept 22 to Oct 10.
