A TOTAL of 10 schools across Penang have been selected under Greatech’s Digital Library Transformative Program this year, marking the company’s largest education-focused initiative to date.
Through this programme, Greatech will sponsor the schools to establish state-of-the-art digital libraries designed to transform traditional study spaces into innovative learning hubs.
The beneficiary schools are SJK(C) Jit Sin B, SJK(C) Kai Chee, SJK(C) Li Hwa, SJK(C) Peng Bin, SJK(C) Sin Ya, SJK(C) Kong Min (Cawangan Kedua), SMK(L) Methodist, SJK(C) Min Sin, SJK(C) Sacred Heart and SMK St Xavier.
Greatech Human Resources and Admin director Jenise Loo Khai Tien said the initiative aims to empower students with digital tools that encourage creativity, self-learning, and innovation.
“The goal is to transform traditional study corners into cutting-edge digital hubs and fuel a passion for learning.
“By integrating technology, we want to build a brighter tomorrow for students in our community,” Loo said during the launch ceremony officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at Greatech’s Batu Kawan factory today.
She added that the initiative builds on earlier efforts where three schools were sponsored in previous years, namely SJK(C) Beng Teik and SJK(C) Chung Hwa 3 in 2022, followed by SJK(C) Aik Hua in 2024.
“These projects showed us how digital libraries can spark curiosity, encourage self-learning, and transform schools into spaces of discovery.
“Imagine a classroom where every child has access to endless knowledge at their fingertips. Today, we make this vision a reality by integrating digital resources into the schools.
“This year, we take a bigger step forward by bringing this initiative to 10 schools across Penang, with five on the mainland and five on the island and benefiting more than 8,000 students and teachers,” she said.
According to Loo, this year’s programme represents an investment of around RM2 million.
“Each school’s library will feature a smart board for presentations, a stage for multifunctional use, a futuristic ceiling design to enhance the ambience, bean bags for secondary school students to relax and read, a tablet range of 20 to 30 units, depending on student headcount and many others.
“Together, these elements will transform our libraries into modern, engaging, tech-enabled hubs for students and staff alike.
“As a homegrown Penang company, we are deeply committed to giving back to the place we call home.
“For us, success is not only about business growth, but about how much we contribute to society and how many young talents we help to flourish,” she added.
She also announced that next year’s Digital Library Transformative Program is ready for application.
“We will be publishing the application QR code on our social media platforms very soon, and I warmly encourage other schools to stay tuned and apply to be part of this journey,” said Loo.
Meanwhile, Chow commended Greatech for this initiative.

“The Digital Library Transformative Program is an initiative that reflects the shared aspiration between the state government, industry, and the community to create a more inclusive, empowered, and digitally advanced society.
“This launch is about more than upgrading facilities. It is about transforming the way our children access and engage with knowledge.
“The Greatech Digital Library is not just a room filled with devices; it is a platform to ignite curiosity, foster innovation, and equip our students with the skills they need for the future,” said Chow.
Chow added that in today’s world, digital literacy is no longer a luxury; it is essential.
“As Penang continues to anchor itself as a global technology hub, our responsibility is to prepare not only the workforce of today but also the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
“Education has always been the bedrock of progress. Under Penang2030, we are committed to improving access to quality education and equipping our young people with creativity, adaptability, and digital competency.
“The Greatech Digital Library Program directly supports this vision. With a generous contribution of RM2 million, Greatech is enabling 10 government primary and secondary schools in Penang to be transformed into modern, technology-driven learning environments.
“This is a powerful example of bridging the digital divide and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, can thrive in the digital age,” said Chow.
Also present were Greatech Group of Companies chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tan Eng Kee, Greatech chief project officer Khor Lean Heng and Greatech chief financial officer Koay Lin Lin.
