MBSP and Think City ink MoU to transform Butterworth

 

THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) and Think City Sdn Bhd today pledged to develop and rejuvenate Butterworth to become a liveable and vibrant city in the future.

In a brief Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the council and Think City Sdn Bhd, the collaboration would begin today (Oct 14) until Oct 13, 2026.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the council was pleased to collaborate with Think City Sdn Bhd to transform Butterworth under the ‘New Butterworth’ programme.

“The executive summary of this programme is to have 22 public realm and 159 space activation ideas and 28 public arts.

“The MoU today with Think City Sdn Bhd is a step forward to transform Butterworth.

“All the projects will be implemented in stages in accordance with the proposals under a few components.

“The components are Public Realm Urban Design Guidelines (UDG) for 20-minute City, involvement of community in the concept design in Taman Pantai, Butterworth, Sungai Perai programmes and implementation of physical project.

“Our cooperation also includes the Penang Bay project, which aims to attract more investors in line with state government’s commitment under Penang2030 vision.

“We hope to see more private companies taking part in this transformation programme,” he said before the MoU signing ceremony at MBSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

Penang Think City Sdn Bhd managing director Hamdan Abdul Majeed said he was also delighted to collaborate with MBSP.

“We are happy that we have the privilege to jointly work with the council to develop Butterworth,” he said.
