184 Cub Scouts in Bukit Mertajam honoured with award

A TOTAL of 184 Cub Scouts from 18 primary schools in Bukit Mertajam were honoured with the prestigious Penang State Chief Commissioner’s Award at a ceremony held yesterday at SJK (C) Peng Bin.

 

Organised by the Bukit Mertajam District Scout Council, the event recognised Cub Scouts aged 12 and below who had completed various achievement badges and demonstrated outstanding performance in discipline, independence, and creative problem-solving skills.

 

Berapit assemblywoman and Bukit Mertajam District Scout Council president Heng Lee Lee said the award recipients were role models for the younger generation, having shown strong commitment to scouting activities.

 

State Chief Scouts Commissioner Datuk Zulkafli Kamaruddin expressed appreciation to schools for their support and guidance, which enabled the Cub Scouts to earn the prestigious honour.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Penang Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner Datuk Heng Soo Peng, National Scout Council member and Penang State Scout Council honorary treasurer Ong Ewe Keat, Penang State Scout Programme commissioner Mohd Fadzli Abu Hassan @ Hashim, Penang State International commissioner Wong Kok Nian, Penang State Assistant Chief Scout commissioner Heng Teiik Chuang, and Bukit Mertajam District Scout commissioner Tan Sow Sung.

 

The participating schools were SJKT Permatang Tinggi, SK Khir Johari, SJKC Permatang Tinggi, SK Bukit Minyak, SJKC True Light, SJKC Keow Kuang, SK Jalan Baharu, SK Permatang Pasir, SJKC Kim Sen, SJKT Bukit Mertajam, SK Permai Indah, SK Guar Perahu, SK Tanah Liat, SK Mengkuang, SJKC Peng Bin, SK Permatang To’Kandu, SK Seberang Jaya, and SK Taman Impian.

 

The award not only recognises individual excellence but also reinforces the role of scouting in shaping young people into individuals of integrity, vision, and responsibility towards society and the nation.
