THE Penang government has received a total of 23 applications for infrastructure and development projects as a result of organising the Jelajah ❤️ Penang Ketua Menteri 1.0 and 2.0.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said from these 23 project applications, 21 have been accepted.

“These project applications are made by the respective parliamentary and state constituency service centres. And priorities were given to the most urgent projects.

“Among them are upgrading sports facilities, repairing and building a new jetty for fishermen, flood mitigation projects, as well as housing maintenance.

“From the 21 projects, two have been fully completed last year.

“They are the Taman Sri Pinang housing maintenance project at Sungai Pinang at a cost of RM635,465; and the flooring replacement at Dewan MPKK Bandar Cassia badminton court in Bukit Tambun at a cost of RM40,000.

“The rest of the projects are still at the early stage (specification preparation stage) and they still need further evaluation before we can start the projects,” Chow (PH – Padang Kota) said when replying to an oral question by Datuk Mustafa Kamal Ahmad (PH – Telok Ayer Tawar) at the Penang Legislative Assembly today.

The Jelajah ❤️ Penang Ketua Menteri is a special programme where Chow and his entourage went to the ground, covering all 13 parliamentary constituencies in Penang, to know more about local issues faced by the constituents and take effective solutions to address them.

The programmes were held in collaboration with several state agencies.

Chow added that the total cost for organising the Jelajah ❤️ Penang Ketua Menteri 1.0 and 2.0 programmes amounted to RM123,170.

“We had the opportunity to understand the community deeper, assess and see how we can do more to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic through the Jelajah ❤️ Penang Ketua Menteri programmes.

“The district offices and relevant agencies would follow up on several issues which were brought up by the people during our visits.

“We want to promote and rejuvenate the state’s local activities and economy.

“We did not talk politics during our visits and there were not many politicians who joined the programmes. Our visits were more on how we could connect with the local community and listen to their needs,” he said.

According to Chow, a total of RM400,000 has been allocated to all the District Land Offices last year under the Jelajah ❤️ Penang Ketua Menteri programmes.
