26 wooden houses in Tanjong Tokong damaged from waterspout

A TOTAL of 26 wooden houses in Tanjong Tokong were damaged after being hit by a waterspout on April 1.
The waterspout, spotted off the waters near Tanjung Tokong, swept across the coast before gradually decreasing in speed.
Several video clips of the 2pm incident went viral on social media, including those showing zinc sheets from roofs being blown off by the strong wind.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, his political secretary Teh Lai Heng and Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit immediately went to the ground to assist the victims.
Chow said a temporary shelter has been provided for the affected residents, whose homes were damaged by the waterspout.
“The victims are being temporarily relocated pending the repair works. The state Social Welfare Department is also doing their best to assist the victims,” he said.
