WORLD-class tournaments will solidify the reputation of Penang as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

These competitions allow the state to open its doors to its beautiful island and invite people from all around the world to enjoy everything that Penang has to offer.

“We want to have more people, players, spectators, and visitors alike to experience our dynamic culture, our renowned food and our friendly people,” state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said when he officiated the 2019 World Hoops Penang 3X3 World Challenger held at Gurney Paragon on May 11.

The tournament, from May 9 to 12, saw 60 foreign and local teams, including the Penang state basketball team, competing.

Also present were Hunza Group founder Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong and World Hoops Sdn Bhd managing director Grace Khor.

Soon said as a whole community, they were grateful and honoured to host such a prestigious tournament here in Penang.

“We are absolutely certain that this fast-paced, action-packed tournament will be Penang’s biggest event of the year,” Soon stressed.

“It is our desire that this event offers everyone the opportunity to participate and create memorable experiences,” he added.

He commented there would be some incredible games that would hopefully inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds and a multitude of other activities that would bring joy, excitement and entertainment to both participants and spectators.
